Longmont,CO: No charges to be filed in bicycle and semi crash on Colo. 66 on November, Wednesday 8th 2017
No charges will be filed against anyone in a crash between a cyclist and a semi at East County Line Road and Colo. 66 last month after investigators could not determine whether the truck or the bicycle left its lane.
On Oct. 20, a semi headed east on Colo. 66 was turning right onto southbound East County Line Road at the same time that a bicyclist headed north on East County Line Road was in the left turn lane and attempting to turn onto westbound Colo. 66.
According to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis, investigators believe that the cyclist and the semi- truck collided, resulting in serious injuries to the cyclist.
There was initially some question as to whether the bicycle and the truck actually collided or if the bicycle went down trying to avoid the truck, but Lewis said investigators now believe the two did make contact.
Lewis said no citations have been issued and said the agency likely won't issue any in the future because there was not enough evidence to determine whether the truck or the bicycle left its lane while each was trying to turn at the same time.
"There wasn't enough evidence to figure out if one person left their lane one way or the other," Lewis said.
The truck driver remained on scene after the crash, and investigators said there was no evidence of drug or alcohol impairment with either the driver or the cyclist.
