Austin,TX : Teen killed in wreck on September, Monday 4th 2017
A Decatur High School student was killed in a two-vehicle wreck on Farm Road 730 near County Road 4480 north of Boyd Monday afternoon.
Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper David Marcoux said Payten Tynsky, 16, was killed in the accident. Tynsky’s Chevrolet Silverado was northbound on FM 730 about 1:45 p.m. when she lost control of the vehicle and overcorrected, causing it to enter a side skid and cross into the path of a southbound Dodge pickup, Marcoux said. The Dodge’s driver swerved into the southbound shoulder to avoid the collision but struck the Chevrolet as both entered the shoulder. Both pickups came to rest against a nearby fence.
Tynsky was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Jan Morrow. The occupants of the Dodge pickup, Wade and Robin Phariss, were taken to Wise Health System in Decatur via ground ambulance.
Boyd Fire Department, Wise County EMS and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene.
As a Decatur swimmer, Tynsky was remembered by former coach Brooke Huffman as a hard worker with a contagious smile.
“She had this smile and this bubbly attitude,” Huffman said. “She constantly had a smile on her face.”
Grief counselors were on campus Tuesday for students and staff.
A prayer service was held before school Tuesday at the flag pole, and students wrote memories of Tynsky on a large, purple poster, her favorite color. Friends and teammates have also been tagging memories of her on social media with the hashtag #SmileForPayten, a reflection of her bright personality and constant joy.
Jacksboro High School students wore blue shirts Tuesday to show support for Decatur students dealing with the tragic loss of a classmate.
“Everyone’s going to miss her a whole lot,” Huffman said.
Tynsky is remembered by her coworkers at Lowe’s Market as a bright and kind person who made everyone happy.
“This was her first job,” said Manager Gail Roberson. “When she came in, she just took off. At 16 some kids don’t have it together, but she did. The joy and the sunshine that she brought into our workplace, her happiness was just contagious.
“A lot of us that work here are older,” she said, “so it was incredible to see a new face in the store. The customers really enjoyed dealing with her. It doesn’t matter if you were having a bad day, her laughter and her smile changed your day. We’re truly going to miss her.”
