Pittsburgh, PA : Pedestrian killed in crash on Tri-boro Expressway in Wilmerding on Monday, November, 20th 2017
A pedestrian was struck and killed walking along the Tri-Boro Expressway in Wilmerding on Monday morning, authorities said.
Allegheny County Police said the man, who was not carrying any identification, was walking down the middle of the left, westbound lane when he was struck by a vehicle. An Allegheny County 911 supervisor said the crash took place just before 4:45 a.m. near the Wilmerding off-ramp.
Police said witnesses tried to tell the man to move prior to the crash and he did not. They noted there was very little lighting in the area.
The man had suffered “massive trauma” when police and medics arrived; he was declared dead at the scene. Police did not suspect the driver, who remained at the scene, of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
All westbound lanes of the Tri-Boro were closed starting at Thomas Street in Monroeville for the crash investigation and reconstruction.
