Shelby, NC : One person dead after car hydroplaned, hit tree on Highway 226 in Shelby on Sunday morning, April 19, 2015
One person died after a car hydroploned in Shelby Sunday morning.
According to the highway patrol, a vehicle was traveling south on Highway 226 when it hydroplaned and spun off the left shoulder of the roadway. The car struck a tree on the passenger side of the vehicle.
The front-seat passenger, James Moody, was ejected from the car. The rear passenger, Bessie Hunt, was killed on impact.
The driver, Clyde Hudson, was injured in the accident but not ejected, according to troopers.
Hudson and Moody were taken to Cleveland Regional Medical Center with serious injuries before being transported to Carolinas Medical Center.
Hunt and Moody were engaged to be married. The driver was Hunt’s uncle.
Troopers said Hudson has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, based on exceeding speed limit for conditions at the time. He was not traveling past the posted speed limit, troopers said.
There was also heavy rain at the time of the accident.
