Newnan ,GA : Additional charges filed in fatal head-on crash on March, Tuesday 13th 2018
A Newnan man involved in a fatal head-on collision will now face felony charges.
Jerry Eugene Jackson Jr., 53, was charged with vehicular homicide, along with driving too fast for conditions and failure to maintain lane, according to jail documents. He was later released on $2,317.50 bond.
The crash occurred last October when Jackson's Toyota Land Cruiser, traveling eastbound on Hwy. 16 near Orchard Hills, drove off the road on the south shoulder, struck a mailbox before rotating counter-clockwise and traveling into the westbound lane, where he collided head-on with a 2015 Dodge Ram traveling westbound, according to Trooper Chris Davison with the Georgia State Patrol.
The passenger of the Ram, identified as Timothy Richard Davis of Newnan, was transported to Atlanta Medical Center where he later passed away as a result of his injuries sustained in the crash, according to Coweta County Coroner Richard Hawk.
Several days later, Jackson told investigators he remembered traveling on Highway 16 that day and waking up in the hospital, according to the crash report. He did not recall the collision of the events that led up to the crash.
Alcohol or distracted driving was not believed to have played a role in the crash, according to Davison.
