A Madison man is dead following a collision with a deer on Tuesday afternoon in the town of Arlington.
Phillip J. Johnson, 61, was killed after his motorcycle struck a deer at about 3:54 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
Johnson was traveling east on Highway K, one quarter mile east of Pine Hollow Road — close to Interstate 90/94 and about five miles north of DeForest — when his motorcycle hit the deer.
Johnson suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported via MedFlight to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, where he was pronounced deceased later in the evening.
It has not been determined whether Johnson was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. A helmet was found at the scene, but Johnson was not wearing the helmet when emergency responders arrived.
Speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
