A Fort Lauderdale woman who was the former wife of a local Ponzi schemer was killed in a pre-dawn crash Thursday on Interstate 95.According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Shalese Rania Presnell, 42, was driving north in a 2003 Ford Expedition approaching the Oakland Park Boulevard exit about 4 a.m. when the right side of her SUV struck the left side of a 2001 Honda Accord driven by Jose Daniel Contreras, 67, of Plantation.Presnell lost control of the SUV, veered off the highway onto the right shoulder and rolled over. She was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, FHP Sgt. Mark Wysocky said.Contreras, who was wearing a seat belt, was not hurt, authorities said.Presnell had two children, said her father, Edward Presnell. News of her death had not yet "sunk in," he said."My daughter, she was a mother of two young children, 10 and 6," he said. "She's been taking care of her kids by herself with no help from anybody. She went out and worked and took care of them."Presnell had been married to Sean Healy, of Weston, who in 2010 was sentenced to federal prison for 16 years for stealing $16.7 million from investors in Pennsylvania. Presnell, a former model, was not criminally implicated in the case. But she was forced to give up millions in assets in her name purchased with Healy's ill-gotten money, including a $2.4 million Weston home and more than 10 luxury cars titled in her name, court records show.Edward Presnell wants his daughter instead to be remembered for her role as a mother."Her kids loved her and she loved them," he said. The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing, FHP said.
