Billings, MT : Carbon County woman dies in head-on crash south of Rockvale on Sunday, January, 14th 2018
A Carbon County woman died when her car was struck in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 310 near Rockvale early Sunday morning, according to the Montana Highway Patrol.
The woman was in her late 50s and was driving a Ford Focus, MHP Trooper Brett Riesinger said Sunday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her passenger, a Carbon County man in his mid-30s, was transported to St. Vincent Healthcare with rib injuries, Riesinger said.
The other driver, also from Carbon County, is suspected of being alcohol-impaired and possibly on drugs when the crash occurred, at about 4:30 a.m. His southbound Toyota Tundra crossed into oncoming traffic, Riesinger said, and struck the northbound passenger car.
The man, who was the sole occupant of his pickup truck, was transported to a hospital with possible minor injuries, Riesinger said. He had not been charged with any crimes as of noon on Sunday, but was being investigated for possibly driving under the influence.
The crash occurred about one mile south of the highway's intersection with U.S. 212 in Rockvale. Despite recent snowfall throughout south-central Montana last week, the road surface was relatively dry at the time of the crash, Riesinger said.
The woman's identity is being withheld pending notification of her next of kin, Carbon County Sheriff Josh McQuillan said Sunday afternoon.
