Two motorists were seriously injured Thursday in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 20 in Pine Township, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said.
According to police, at 6:12 p.m. Noretta Pullins, 80, of Michigan City, was eastbound on U.S. 20, driving a 2012 Chevrolet Impala, when she attempted to turn left onto northbound Maine Ave. and collided with a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 westbound on U.S. 20 and driven by Patrick Ballinger, 31, of Chesterton.
Police said that Pullins had to be extricated from her vehicle and was airlifted to an unidentified hospital with incapacitating injuries.
Ballinger was transported to Franciscan Health Michigan City, also with incapacitating injuries, police said.
“No citations were issued and both occupants were wearing seatbelts,” police said.
Assisting at the scene were the Porter and Beverly Shores fire departments, the Beverly Shores Police Department, and Porter Regional Hospital and LaPorte County EMS, police said.
