Tempe, AZ : 49-year-old Michael G. Salinel dies after deadly chain-reaction crash on Loop 101 near the U.S. 60 on Saturday night, January 23, 2016

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says a motorcyclist was killed when he became pinned between two cars.

DPS officials say 49-year-old Michael G. Salinel, of Gilbert, died Saturday after a crash on Loop 101 near the U.S. 60.

Phoenix reports authorities say a vehicle cut off another car just before 9:30 p.m.

The impact sent the second car into a wall.

Investigators say Salinel tried to avoid hitting the stricken car with his motorcycle but was subsequently rear-ended by a third car.

They say Salinel was pinned between the two.

DPS say the vehicle that started the chain-reaction crash fled the scene.

Investigators have not released a description but believe the car has damage to its side.

Part of Loop 101 reopened early Sunday.
