Police have identified a pedestrian who was struck by a car outside an Oakland hospital as a nurse who had worked more than 30 years working at the institution.
The San Francisco Chronicle that 66-year-old Patricia Alvarez, of El Sobrante, died Sunday after her family decided to take her off life support.
Alvarez was struck by a car outside UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in Oakland on Wednesday while working the overnight shift. The 44-year-old driver stayed on scene and was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.
Officials say Alvarez was in the crosswalk walking to the hospital from the parking garage when she was struck.
She had worked at the hospital since 1979.
