Houston, TX : 5-year-old boy killed in hit-and-run crash in NW Harris County on Thursday night, July 21, 2016

Authorities have identified a 5-year-old boy killed and a 3-year-old boy who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run collision Thursday night near a park in northwest Harris County.

The incident happened about 8:45 p.m. in the 2300 block of Fallbrook Drive near West Butte Canyon, said Sgt. S. Wolverton of the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Wolverton said the boys, identified as Jayden Aguilar, 5, and his relative, Jeremiah Aguilar, 3, were playing with a ball inside the fence at Doss Park. When the ball went over the fence, the two children pushed open the bottom of the chain-link fence, manged to squeeze through the opening and went into the street to grab the ball.

When they were in the street, the driver of a red or orange pickup or possibly sport utility vehicle hit both of them. Witnesses said the vehicle may be a Chevrolet Avalanche.

Jayden died at the scene. Jeremiah was rushed to Texas Children's Hospital. Details of his injuries were not released but deputies said he was in serious condition.

Wolverton said the driver did not stop after hitting the boys.
No description of the driver was available.

Wolverton said investigators found small pieces of a vehicle at the scene. They hope to find model numbers on the pieces that may help them identify the type of vehicle that hit the boys and lead them to the driver.
