Marysville, CA : Driver, 1-year-old passenger hurt when car reported stolen crashes on Saturday, January 28th 2017
A vehicle reported stolen to Marysville police crashed on Highway 70 in Butte County early Saturday, injuring the driver and a 1-year-old child, the California Highway Patrol said.
The driver, Jacob L. Aguilar-Price, 21, of Fairfield lost control of a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero, allowing it to drift into the gravel portion of the center median just north of Ophir Road at about 3:30 a.m.
He then tried to steer back into paved portion of the highway. The car went into a broadside skid and overturned, the CHP said.
Aguilar-Price was wearing a seat belt, but the passenger, a 1-year-old child, also from Fairfield, was not in a child safety seat.
"The child was improperly restrained in the reclined right front seat with a seat belt draped over him," the CHP said.
The child was ejected from the vehicle, sustained serious injuries and was transported by air ambulance to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, according to the CHP.
Aguilar-Price was taken to Oroville Medical Center, where he was arrested and admitted for treatment of moderate injuries, Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, the CHP said.
Marysville police Sgt. Greg Parks said a woman reported the vehicle stolen between 3 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. The car was taken in the 1600 block of C Street.
"She said there was a child with him when he left," Parks said.
