Baltimore, MD : One killed and four injured, some seriously, in BW Parkway wreck early Saturday morning, April 1, 2017
One person was killed and four hospitalized, some with serious injuries, in a single-vehicle wreck on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway early Saturday morning.
Maryland State Police responded to the call for an accident in the southbound lanes of Interstate 295 at Route 175 at about 5:30 a.m., when they found a 2006 Mitsubishi sitting in the second lane of the roadway.
Troopers later determined the vehicle left the roadway and hit a tree before returning to the road.
A passenger, Keona Johnson, 21, of Washington, D.C., was ejected from the car and found in the roadway.. She was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.
Four other passengers, three residents of Prince George's County and the other from Washington, were all taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with serious and life-threatening injuries.
The center at about 6 p.m. Saturday provided an update on the status of the four injured. Tyesha Jacob, 22 of Suitland, was in critical condition and Amanda Burgess, 30, of Temple Hills, remained in serious condition. The driver, Sekaya Cogdell, 24, of Forestville, and Tyrese Hicks, 26, of Washington, D.C., were discharged.
The crash shut down southbound lanes of the parkway for about five hours as police investigated the scene.
The cause of the crash had yet been determined Saturday afternoon.
