1 dead, 1 critical and several more injured in University area accident

Paramedics rushed several people to the hospital by ground and in the air after a car rolled over in a single car accident on Mallard Creek Road Sunday morning.WBTV News has learned that one of the patients was pronounced dead at the hospital, and that another patient is in critical condition.The accident happened at about 11:30 on Mallard Creek Road at Sawgrass Ridge Place.In about a half an hour, 23 firefighters rescued all the victims who were pinned inside of the vehicle.At least two medical helicopters were called to the scene to transport patients.Three patients are being treated for injuries described as life threatening. Another two patients are being treated for injuries described as potentially life threatening, and three patients are being treated for injuries described as non-Iife threatening, MEDIC said.In all, at least eight people are being treated because of the wreck.Detectives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's major crash unit are investigating.
