DUMONT DUNES, CA : Riverside man killed in Dumont Dunes off-road crash on Saturday, 29th October 2016
A Riverside man was killed in an off-road collision Saturday in the Dumont Dunes recreational area north of Baker.
San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner officials identified the man as Gustavo Aranda-Castaneda, 32, of Riverside.
Authorities said at approximately 11:29 a.m., Aranda-Castaneda was riding an all-terrain vehicle in the area of Banshee Bowl and “climbed” a 60-to-70-foot tall hill and wasn’t able to stop before reaching the top.
“He went over the top and fell about 50 feet down,” according to the coroner’s report. “He was wearing a helmet and was ejected from the (ATV).”
Emergency personnel arrived and performed cardio pulmonary resuscitation. But Aranda-Castaneda was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 12:43 p.m.
Further information was not immediately available and the cause was under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
