Jacksonville, FL : Jacksonville officer injured in crash with wrong-way driver on Interstate 95 near Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway on Tuesday, 24th March, 2020

A Jacksonville police officer was seriously injured Tuesday night in a crash with a suspect driving the wrong direction during a chase on Interstate 95 near Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Officers began the pursuit about 10:30 p.m., going after a reckless driver in a Jeep Cherokee, police said. The suspect then began heading north in I-95's southbound lanes.

The pursuit continued the wrong way on the interstate just as another officer was traveling south. Police said he was trying to close off the highway to prevent a crash with the reckless driver. That officer’s vehicle ended up being hit by the Jeep.
