Beckley, WV : Sheriff gives ID of woman killed in collision on Monday, August 14, 2017

Greenbrier County Sheriff Bruce Sloan has released the names of two people — one of whom died — involved in a head-on collision Monday near the Greenbrier-Pocahontas County line.

Abigail Hannah, 34, of Marlinton, died in the accident on U.S. 219 about a half a mile south of the county line.

Sloan said officials responded to the scene around 4:10 p.m. Monday, where they discovered Carlton Reed Black, 19, of Covington, Va., was southbound when he lost control of his vehicle on the wet pavement in a turn and went left of the center lane into the northbound lane where his vehicle struck Hannah’s.

Hannah was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sloan said Black did not appear to suffer any visible injuries and was not medically transported.

Sgt. R. B. Baker is the investigating officer and received assistance from the Marlinton State Police detachment.
