STANLEYTOWN, VA : One Patrick County resident was killed in a single vehicle accident on Fairystone Park on Sunday, November, 5th 2017
One Patrick County resident was killed Sunday in a single vehicle accident on Fairystone Park Highway.
According to officials with the Virginia State Police, the incident took place around 10:15 p.m. When the driver didn't return home by Monday morning, family members called law enforcement and reported him missing. The man and his 2001 Suzuki Sidekick were located soon after by Virginia State Police. According to the troopers, the Sidekick had run off the road to the left and the driver overcorrected, sending it back across the highway and over the embankment.
By 11:45 a.m. Monday, the Virginia State Police, Bassett Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. and representatives from both S&T Towing and Eastwood Towing were working the scene.
S&T and Eastwood employees worked with the fire department to attach cables to the Suzuki to pull it up the hill.
The 4-door SUV sustained severe damage, especially to the driver’s side. Several windows, including the back windshield were broken and the front windshield was shattered.
The vehicle’s roof and body received multiple indentations and the left front tire was flat. The left front headlight was nonexistent and a portion of the rear left taillight hung by a chord.
When crews recovered the vehicle from the ravine, tree limbs and leaves jutted out of the missing rear windshield.
The driver, a 48-year-old Patrick Springs man, was the only person in the vehicle and he was ejected upon impact, according to First Sgt. Davis with the Virginia State Police. The man died from his injuries at the scene, but his name was not released, as officials have yet to inform family members.
