Middleboro, Massachusetts
Police on Tuesday are continuing to investigate after five people died Monday in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 495 in Middleborough.
A car driven by a Valantein V. Burson, 31, of Fall River, was heading south on the northbound side of the highway when it slammed head-on into a vehicle traveling in the correct direction.
Kraig Diggs, 20, of Osterville, was identified by his father as one of the victims. Diggs was a student at Anna Maria College.
The college also identified Jordan Galvin-Jutras, 19, of Hyannis, as another victim.
During his senior year at Barnstable High School, Galvin-Jutras took part in an internship program with the Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department.
"They'll respond to calls. They'll participate in training. They'll operate at the station doing chores and maintenance and basically become a member of our family," COMM Chief Michael Winn said.
Winn remembered Galvin-Jutras as a hardworking, respectful and polite young man, who always made others laugh.
"Jordan was a fantastic kid. His smile, his energy, his embracing of life -- he was just a wonderful personality to be around," he said.
The teen is being honored in a way that only a select few have earned.
"We have chosen to fly our memorial flag in honor of Jordan, a right that's reserved for sworn members of the department, and right now, we're in contact with the family to see how we can support the family," Winn said.
Family members identified Jordan Fisher, 19, of Harwich, a student at Becker College in Worcester, as another one of the victims.
The fourth victim in the car was Cory P. Licata, 18, of West Babylon, New York. Licata was also a student at Becker College.
They were headed to colleges in central Massachusetts early Monday morning after visiting family on Cape Cod.
