An 18-year-old Redlands man was killed in a single-car crash near Banning on Tuesday.
James McNeal was killed when his car veered off the 10 Freeway and crashed into a freeway sign pole, according to a California Highway Patrol San Gorgonio Station news release.
McNeal was pronounced dead at 1:36 a.m. at Riverside University Health Systems hospital in Moreno Valley, according to the release.
The crash was reported just after midnight on the eastbound 10 Freeway, just west of the junction with the 60 Freeway, according to CHP.
McNeal’s 1995 Toyota Camry was traveling about 65 mph when it veered to the right for an unknown reason, collided with the pole and spun out though a fence.
The car came to rest on a dirt section of Desert Lawn Drive, south of the freeway, according to the release.
The investigation is ongoing and it was unclear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, according to the release.
