HAINES CITY, FL : Fatal Polk crash: 1 dead after 2-vehicle collision at U.S. 27 on Tuesday, 28th April, 2020
A 32-year-old Polk man is dead after a crash that closed part of U.S. 27 for about four hours Tuesday, according to the Haines City Police Department.
It happened at U.S. 27 and Patterson Road shortly before 7 a.m., HCPD spokesman Mike Ferguson said in a news release.Fernando Alberto Delgado Pereira of Davenport was driving a 2007 Mitsubishi sedan west on Patterson Road. When he approached the stop sign at U.S. 27, he failed to come to a complete stop before turning left to travel south on the highway, witnesses told police.
At that time, a northbound 2008 Acura SUV driven by Emmanuelle Ramirez Ramirez, 35, of Dundee struck the driver’s side door of Pereira’s vehicle, Ferguson said.
Pereira’s vehicle rotated and came to a rest facing south, just off the road to the west of the southbound lanes of U.S. 27, the HCPD said.
Pereira, who worked as a mechanic at the Florida National Guard Armory in Haines City, was pronounced dead at the scene, Ferguson said.
