Council Bluffs, IA : Council Bluffs police officer arrested for drunk driving, hit-and run accident on Sunday, January 8th 2017
A Council Bluffs police officer faces drunken-driving charges after a Sunday evening hit-and-run accident.
Robert G. Miller, 57, was arrested Sunday night after an incident that started in the 100 block of North Eighth Street, according to the Council Bluffs Police Department.
Police believe Miller, driving a 2001 silver Toyota Sequoia, struck a tree in the front yard of a home in the 100 block of North Eighth Street and backed over a stop sign and street sign. Officers said it also appears Miller drove through a wooden fence at a different home on North Eighth Street.
Residents of one of the homes followed the Toyota south on North Eighth Street until Miller stopped in the 700 block of West Broadway, police said. A disturbance between Miller and the residents ensued before officers arrived.
A police report notes that Miller’s blood-alcohol content was 0.198, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08. The Iowa State Patrol was called to the scene to assist in the matter.
Authorities arrested Miller on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated-first offense, leaving the scene of a property damage collision and failure to maintain control of a vehicle.
Miller is a 33-year-veteran of the department and has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal case and an administrative investigation.
Miller was released from the Pottawattamie County Jail on his own recognizance. His initial court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 18.
