Aurora, CO : One dead after chain-reaction, three-vehicle collision at Aurora off-ramp on Friday night, June 10, 2016

Charges are pending against a driver who caused a chain-reaction collision Friday night, June 10, near an interstate off-ramp that left one driver dead after being broadsided and striking a light pole.

Aurora police Lt. Michael A. McClelland said that charges are pending for a 25-year-old man who was spotted driving a black Audi sedan at a high rate of speed around 6:45 p.m. June 10 along northbound Interstate 225. The driver, who has not been named as of this writing, reportedly reached the bottom of the off-ramp for East Sixth Avenue after exiting I-225 and slammed into the back of a silver Honda CR-V stopped at a red light. The CR-V, driven by a 40-year-old woman, then was pushed into the intersection where it broadsided a gold Honda Acura, which then crashed into a light pole.

The driver of the Honda Acura — a 41-year-old man — was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The woman driving the CR-V was treated for what police described as non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators with the Aurora police traffic section believe that the driver of the Audi “may have suffered some kind of medical problem while driving,” according to McClelland.

The name of the driver of the CR-V driver has not been released by police; the identity of the driver of the Acura is pending positive identification and notification of next-of-kin from the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
