Everett, WA :Suspected drunk driver crashes into trooper on I-5 on Tuesday, June 30th 2015
A Washington State Patrol trooper suffered minor injuries Tuesday evening when a suspected drunk driver slammed into his patrol car on I-5 near Everett. The trooper, who was inside his car, had his emergency lights on and was blocking a lane of southbound I-5 for a fire investigation when he was hit, according to troopers at the scene.Witnesses said a white car tried to swerve just before hitting the patrol car. "Just hit him. There was no braking. Just he started to veer off this way and at the last minute saw him and hit him right in the corner," said Linda Lucas, who witnessed the crash on her way home from work."I was in shock," Lucas said. "I immediately pulled over because it was shocking to me. How does this person just hit him with no braking whatsoever?" The trooper was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries. It's unclear if the other driver suffered any injuries. That driver, who has not been identified, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Troopers say the man was arrested for DUI several months ago in the same car. The crash temporarily brought southbound traffic to a standstill as crews investigated and cleared the scene.
