Greenville, IL : Two people died in a Bond County crash on Saturday night, May 21, 2016
Two people died in a Bond County crash Saturday night but three passers-by were able to rescue a 16-year-old girl from the truck.
The victims’ names are being withheld pending notification of family members, Bond County Coroner Anthony R. Brooks said.
The three-vehicle crash occurred on Illinois 127 at Tamalco Avenue.
Brooks pronounced the two victims dead at 9:22 p.m. at the scene. They were in a 1989 Ford pickup truck along with the 16-year-old girl.
After impact, the truck caught fire, Brooks said. Three men who arrived on the crash scene were able to pull the teenager from the truck.
“The men attempted to get the two front-seat passengers, but the vehicle was fully involved at this time, and they were unable to get them,” Brooks said in a news release.
Brooks said two helicopters arrived to take victims to a hospital and at least five people were injured. Their conditions were not available.
Also, information about other vehicles involved in the crash was not immediately available.
The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police and Brooks.
