NEW RUSSIA TWP, OH : Man charged with OVI after single-car rollover crash on Thursday, July 13, 2017
An Elyria man was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated Thursday afternoon after a single-car rollover crash on state Route 58.
John Papas, 48, of Elyria, was charge with OVI refusal and failure to control after crashing his 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier.
According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, Papas was traveling northbound on Route 58, north of Russia Road, when he lost control of the vehicle in a curve. The vehicle went off the west side of the road, struck a ditch and overturned. The vehicle came to rest on its roof in the ditch.
Papas was pinned inside the car and was unable to get out, troopers said. The South Amherst fire department broke out the back window and helped him get out of the vehicle from the back.
Papas had minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene, troopers said. He was arrested and taken to the Elyria post, where he was later released to a friend or family member, troopers said.
Papas’ vehicle was the only vehicle in the crash, and he was the only person in the car.
