Martinsburg, W.V : Man injured after I-81 crash in Martinsburg on Friday morning, March 10, 2017
Martinsburg, West Virginia
A 31-year-old man was flown to a Virginia hospital after he was thrown from a vehicle during a traffic accident Friday morning along Interstate 81, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department.
Joseph Cody Roger was taken to Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg and then flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., the sheriff's department said in a news release.
Sheriff's deputies responded at 10:24 a.m. to the scene of a vehicle rollover on the southbound side of Interstate 81 near Exit 13 for Martinsburg, W.Va., police said.
An investigation determined that Roger was thrown from a 2010 Toyota Corolla that left the right side of the highway just prior to the overpass for West King Street, struck an embankment and rolled over, police said.
The right-hand lane of I-81 was closed while rescue workers responded to the scene.
The crash occurred little more than five hours after one of two northbound lanes of Interstate 81 near the 14-mile marker in West Virginia was closed Friday morning due to an accident involving two tractor-trailers, according to a Berkeley County Emergency Services supervisor.
The accident was reported shortly after 5 a.m.
The supervisor said an ambulance was called to the scene.
