Brownwood, TX : A multi-vehicle rollover accident on May, Wednesday 3rd 2017
A multi-vehicle rollover accident shut down a block of Austin Ave. between Roselawn Ave. and Parkway Dr., adjacent to Coggin Park, on Wednesday evening.
According to Brownwood police chief Terry Nichols, the incident occurred around 6:10 p.m. when a northbound GMC Arcadia lost control and struck two wooden utility poles and a black Honda Civic. The front of the Arcadia was crushed, while the Civic suffered extensive damage to its right rear fender.
Although utility poles were struck and Oncor was called on scene, no power outages were reported due to the accident. Both poles were snapped from their base during the collision.
Howard Payne DPS Lt. David Creed was among the first responders on the scene after the accident. “When I got up here, there was a lady who came up to me and told me there was one victim in the white [GMC],” Creed said. “It had been a full rollover. She was still inside the vehicle, and she had a nurse that was attending her.”
Creed said he was told a nurse was attending the driver of the Civic as well. He could not confirm whether either victim had been transported to the hospital, though he saw someone loaded and driven away near the Civic.
Nichols said he did not believe the injuries to be severe.
“From what I can tell,” Creed said, “it looks like [the GMC] ... clipped that pole, and flipped upside down. They said she slid from here to there, and when she hit that pole it flipped it right side up.”
The two struck utility poles were at least 80 yards apart.
On-scene authorities could not immediately provide a timeline for clean-up and repair.
