Northfield Center Township, OH : 7-year-old boy dead and another seriously injured in a crash in Summit County on Saturday, September 24, 2016

A 7-year-old boy has died after a crash on the exit ramp from Route 8 North to I-271 North.

It happened around 12:50 p.m. Saturday when authorities say the driver of a 2014 Honda Accord failed to keep assured clear distance and struck a 2014 Honda Odyssey.

There were two 7-year-old boys inside the Accord at the time of the collision. Both boys were taken to Akron Children’s Hospital with serious injuries where one later died.

The second boy is listed in stable condition.

Investigators with the Summit County Sheriff's office say neither child was wearing a seat belt.

The roadway was partially closed for approximately four hours to clear the scene.

Authorities say alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

No citations or charges have been filed as the incident remains under investigation.
