Laplata, MD : Man dies from injuries suffered in La Plata crash with state trooper's cruiser on Saturday, October 8, 2016
Maryland State Police say a driver hurt in a crash with a trooper's cruiser has died of his injuries.
The agency said in a news release that 75-year-old James Cousins Sr., of Waldorf, died Monday at Medstar Washington Hospital Center, where he was taken after Saturday's crash.
Police say 25-year-old Trooper Constance Davis was driving her marked patrol car eastbound on Smallwood Drive near Stone Avenue in La Plata when she collided with Cousins' Chevy Malibu shortly after 2 a.m. Police say Davis' car then careened into a tree and both vehicles caught fire.
Police say Davis escaped the burning cruiser and was transported to Shock Trauma for her injuries. Troopers said Tuesday that Davis had been released from the hospital.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
