MUSCATINE, IA : Muscatine high speed chase ends in crash on Friday, November, 17th 2017
The Muscatine County Sheriff's Department released details on the high speed chase that took place Friday morning, November 17.Around 9:27 a.m. sheriff deputies attempted to stop a red 2001 Ford truck at the intersection of Mulberry Rd. and 155th St, north of Muscatine. Officials say the vehicle was speeding. They also say the driver of the vehicle, 29-year-old Rusty Wayne Wadden was known to be wanted on warrants.
Officials say the driver refused to pull over and a pursuit ensued through the county with speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. The pursuit entered the city of Muscatine at Hwy. 38 and Hwy. 61 southbound, where around 9:34 a.m., the truck hit a sheriff's squad in the 2600 block of Park. They say the truck also damaged the stop lights at the intersection.
The pursuit continued through the city of Muscatine with speeds up to 80 mph and finally ended in the 200 block of Roscoe Avenue. Police say the truck hit another sheriff's vehicle and a retaining wall.
Both Wadden and the deputy sheriff (on Roscoe) were taken to the hospital. The deputy suffered minor injuries and has been released. The deputy from the first accident was treated and released for minor injuries.
Wadden had nationwide felony warrants for parole violation, no bond, for burglary in the 3rd degree and theft in the 2nd degree. He also had a warrant for possession of marijuana in Muscatine County.
At the time of this report, Wadded had not been released from medical treatment. Additional charges will be pending as a result of the chase.
Muscatine County Sheriff Ryan commented on Friday's events in a written statement.
"It is unfortunate that we have to deal with individuals that have no regard for the law, or person's lives or property. The operation of the vehicle by Mr. Wadden today puts people at great risk, and we make every attempt to end those situations as quickly as possible."
UPDATE: KWQC's Emma Hogg is on the scene of an accident at Van Horne Street and Roscoe Avenue involving a red pickup truck and a Sheriff's SUV. She is working to get more details.
ORIGINAL: Viewers reported a high speed chase in Muscatine involving a red pickup truck and many law enforcement officers.
A viewer sent in a video that shows the pickup driving through the parking lot of Meineke Car Care Center, over the sidewalk and back out onto the street. The video shows at least two Muscatine Sheriff's Department vehicles involved in the chase.
