Orlando, FL : Three people injured in wrong-way crash on SR-417 in Orange County on Monday night, Oct 19, 2015
A wrong-way crash in Orange County late Monday night sent three people to the hospital and shut down State Road 417.
Florida Highway Patrol said Seminole County Sheriff's Office deputies were following the 84-year-old driver going south in northbound lanes of SR-417 in an attempt to stop him when he crashed his PT Cruiser into another vehicle at Exit 34 for East Colonial Drive.
The driver, identified as Porfirio Perez, was ticketed for driving the wrong way and will be recommended for driver's license medical re-examination, according to FHP. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle, 55-year-old Kevin Cannon, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. His passenger, 15-year-old Sean Cannon, was taken to Arnold Palmer with minor injuries.
The roadway was shut down as the investigation continued, but reopened shortly after the crash.
It's not clear how Perez ended up going the wrong way on SR-417.
