Seattle, WA : 11-year-old girl injured in a carjacking started a chain reaction that led to two crashes on Monday afternoon September 1st 2014
A Monday afternoon carjacking started a chain reaction that led to two crashes in West Seattle, including one that injured an 11-year-old girl.
Louise Logan said she was about to leave a SoDo shopping center sometime around 5 p.m. when she noticed two strangers sitting inside her SUV.
Logan briefly struggled to keep the men from leaving, but she soon gave up and called 911 as the thieves sped away in her vehicle.
"He was just about to shut the door and I grabbed the door on my side, and he's grabbing it and I'm grabbing it and we're just having this tug of war," Logan said. "It was just scary. I was scared."
A short time later, a Seattle police officer spotted the stolen SUV in West Seattle and gave chase. The brief chase ended when the driver -- who by this time was alone in the car -- crashed the vehicle in an alley in the Westwood neighborhood. The carjacker then jumped out and took off on foot.
Police weren't able to follow him, and as of Monday night he was still on the loose.
Police searched the vehicle and found a handgun inside.
A second Seattle police officer responding to the call was involved in a collision at 35th Avenue SW and SW Barton Street that injured an 11-year-old girl.
The girl was taken to Highline Medical Center in Burien to be treated for a neck injury, according to Seattle Fire Department officials.
Police have not released a description of either of the carjackers.
