Oakland ,CA : Fatal crash reported on Interstate 880 on Wednesday morning ,July 29th 2015
A woman died Wednesday morning in a four-vehicle crash in which two cars caught on fire on Interstate 880 near High Street, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.
Anousone Sithideth, 38, of San Pablo, died in the accident, according to the Alameda County Coroner's Bureau.
The fatal accident occurred shortly before 4:50 a.m. when a 2001 Hyundai Sonata stalled in the freeway's southbound middle lane, Officer Sean Wilkenfeld said.
Sithideth, the driver of a 2000 Honda Civic, slammed on her brakes and spun into the adjacent lane, where she was hit by a 2010 Subaru Forester sport-utility vehicle, Wilkenfeld said.
That forced the Honda into the path of a 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck that hit the Honda, killing Sithideth, he said.
The Subaru's driver -- a 52-year-old San Francisco man -- suffered minor injuries and was taken to Kaiser Hospital in San Leandro, Wilkenfeld said. The other two motorists -- a 42-year-old Vacaville man and a 47-year-old Oakland man -- were not injured.
The Hyundai and the Subaru were engulfed by flames as officers arrived at the scene, authorities said. The accident blocked all southbound lanes for about two hours, and they reopened at 7 a.m., authorities said.
All motorists were wearing seat belts. The drivers of the Hyundai, GMC and Subaru remained on scene and are cooperating with the investigation. No arrests have been made.
