Two people were airlifted trauma centers following accident involving motorcycles on Interstate 95 in Harford County Saturday afternoon.
The crash occurred near the Exit 77 interchange with Route 24 in Abingdon, Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association, posted on the association's public information page on Facebook. The post said motorcycles were involved.
Gardiner said in a later text message that two people required Medevac transport.
The crash was called in shortly after 12:45 p.m. PCO Ringgold of the Maryland State Police JFK Memorial Highway Barrack in Perryville said helicopters had arrived to transport the injured. The crash occurred in the southbound lanes, but Ringgold did not have any additional information.
The highway was briefly closed in both directions while the Medevacs landed and picked up the injured, according to State Police and the Fire & EMS Association. Southbound traffic continued to be slowed from Route 543 in Belcamp past the accident scene until after 2 p.m.
All lanes have since reopened, although there is still some slight congestion heading south, according to a staff member with the Maryland Transportation Authority, which is responsible for the section I-95 between Baltimore and the Delaware state line.
