MANHEIM, PA : Woman dies, 2 children injured in Route 72 crash near Manheim on July, Monday 24th 2017

A 27-year-old woman died and two children were injured Monday morning when their car collided with a tractor-trailer on Route 72, police said.

A 3-year-old child was taken to Penn State Hershey Medical Center and was in critical condition following the crash in Penn Township. An 18-month-old in the car was taken to Lancaster General Hospital and was expected to be released, Northern Lancaster County Regional police said.

Police did not immediately release the name of the woman who died.

Witnesses told investigators the car crossed the center line and went into the path of the oncoming truck around 9:20 a.m. Police said the cause of the crash has not been determined and the investigation is ongoing.

The truck driver, a 47-year-old Lancaster man, was taken to Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center. Police said he was not reported to have any serious injuries.

The crash closed Route 72 between Bucknoll and Sun Hill roads for several hours.
