York, PA : Woman injured in a head-on car crash near detour in Heidelberg Twp. on Thursday afternoon, June 16, 2016

A 71-year-old woman was injured in a head-on car crash in Heidelberg on Thursday afternoon, according to Southwestern Regional Police Department.

Nancy Doerflein of Spring Grove was transported to York Hospital with injuries that are not life threatening, according to a news release. WellSpan spokesman Dan Carrigan confirmed Doerflein is in "satisfactory condition."

The crash occurred around 1 p.m. on Old Hanover Road near Jacobs Mill Road, the news release states. After hitting stopped traffic ahead of a detour, Doerflein's vehicle veered into the opposite lane of traffic, colliding with the vehicle of Diane Stewart, 48, of Spring Grove as she was heading in the opposite direction.

Stewart was treated at the scene and released, according to Southwestern Regional Police Department. Both cars were towed from the site of the crash.

Traffic was detoured on Route 116 Thursday because of construction on a railroad crossing near Ambau Road in North Codorus Township, according to the news release. As a result, the road is closed between Hanover and Spring Grove, causing heavy traffic in the stretch of road where the crash occurred, police said.

Route 116 will remain closed until Tuesday, the news release states. Although detours are in place, police recommend drivers seek alternate routes during peak driving times.
