Macomb County, MI : 34-year-old man killed and woman injured in a two-car collision in Lenox Township early Friday, December 18, 2015
A 34-year-old man was killed early Friday and a woman injured in a two-car collision along 26 Mile Road in Lenox Township, police said.
Police identified the deceased as Kinjal Kaushik Patel, a resident of Utica who recently came to Macomb County from Ohio. Police said Patel was returning home from work in Ira Township at the time of the accident.
According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred about 12:20 a.m. near the intersection of 26 Mile and Place roads. Police said the 38-year-old woman was driving a 2014 Dodge Journey east on 26 Mile Road. Her vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and collided with a Hyundai Tiburon, driven by Patel, who died as a result of injuries he suffered in the crash. The woman, whom police have not yet identified, was trapped in her vehicle until fire department personnel extricated her. She suffered non-life threatening injuries, but was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Police said one witness to the crash reported seeing the Dodge Journey traveling erratically on 26 Mile Road prior to the crash and they suspect alcohol may have been a factor.
Following the accident, authorities closed 26 Mile Road near Place Road for nearly six hours. The road was reopened to traffic about 6 a.m.
