Eustis,FL : Owner of Eustis pizza company dies from accident injuries on August, Monday 7th 2017

Ron Butler, co-owner of The Great Pizza Co., in Eustis, died Monday of injuries he suffered in May when he was struck by a car while riding his golf cart.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must share this news with you. Ronnie passed away peacefully at 1:20 this morning,” a post on his Facebook page reads Monday.

“His pneumonia came back with full force and he was experiencing numerous uncontrollable seizures daily. He is now at rest and is no longer hurting. Please keep Sandy and their family in your thoughts and prayers. We will update again when the services have been finalized. Thank you.”

His wife, Sandy Johnson, could not be reached for comment.

The accident happened at 3:42 p.m. on May 4 on County Road 452, about 500 feet north of Em El Grove Road, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. Butler had reportedly gone to get the mail,

Butler was driving his 2003 Club Car across CR 452 when he was struck on the left side by a 1999 Honda Civic driven by Robert G. Althof.

Althof jammed on his brakes in an attempt to stop. The collision caused the golf cart to overturn, the report noted.

Though not cited, the investigating trooper believed Butler was at fault in the accident.

Butler was airlifted to Ocala Regional Medical Center. The accident left him paralyzed, according to Facebook postings.

“I’m just terribly heartbroken,” said former Eustis Mayor Michael Holland.

“He was a good business person who was always willing to help the Downtown Association,” he said.
