Woman struck by van dies in Milan Michigan
A Blanchester woman died Monday after she was struck by a mini-van Monday morning when she was either walking or jogging on State Route 28 near the Blanchester I.O.O.F. Cemetery.Cathy Figart, 49, of Blanchester, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton by Care Flight medical helicopter following the 7:55 a.m. crash, said Sgt. Anthony Pearcy of the Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.Sgt. Chris Crisafi of the OSHP confirmed Figart’s death Monday evening. Earlier in the evening, a spokesperson from the hospital said she remained in critical condition.Figart was a pedestrian on the north side of State Route 28, headed toward downtown Blanchester, said Pearcy. The mini-van, driven by Carla Lovins, 45, of Midland, was traveling east on State Route 28, Pearcy said.Lovins’ van came to a stop facing eastbound in the westbound lane of State Route 28. Her vehicle also struck the guardrail on the north side of the road.A reconstruction team was called in from the OSHP Office of Investigative Services in Cincinnati, Pearcy said.An Ohio State Highway Patrol airplane was also called to the site to take aerial photographs of the crash scene to assist in the investigation, said a spokesman at the Wilmington patrol post.
State Route 28 was closed to traffic for more than four hours. The Blanchester-Marion Township Fire Department and the Ohio Department of Transportation provided traffic control at the scene.
“It may be some time before the cause of the crash can be determined,” Pearcy said.
