Southfield, MI : 23-year-old pregnant woman killed in fiery crash on the Lodge Freeway on Tuesday, November 11, 2014
Michigan State Police have identified a 23-year-old pregnant woman as the one who was killed Tuesday in a fiery crash on the Lodge Freeway.
Kayla Lucille White's Jeep Liberty was rear-ended in the northbound lanes near Telegraph Road by the driver of a Cadillac who was "not paying attention," police said in a statement.
The crash caused White's SUV to collide with two other vehicles, before it overturned and caught fire.
Police said a warrant is being sought for the cellphone of the 69-year-old Beverly Hills man driving the Cadillac to determine if he was texting at the time of the crash. Authorities also are awaiting results of his blood test taken after the crash.
White lived in Ferndale.
Local 4 spoke with her mother on Wednesday.
"She could not wait. We were going down. Everything was ready. She had a name picked out -- Braden Joseph," said Susan White.
Her parents knew something was wrong Tuesday afternoon when she didn't show up for work at Andiamo.
"Her work called and said she hadn't made it to work and I knew in my heart ... nobody could get ahold of her ... I said, 'Something's wrong,'" said Susan.
She said her husband backtracked found the accident through news sources.
"Life is too short. I don't understand it anymore. We're just devastated. We can hardly function," said Susan.
