Sacramento, CA : Driver killed after car wraps around pole on southbound Watt Avenue early Wednesday, December 23, 2015
A driver was killed early Wednesday when he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to slam into a freeway sign along Watt Avenue in Sacramento, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Witness told officers the driver, who is believed to be in his 20s or 30s, was speeding about 1:45 a.m. on southbound Watt Avenue, officer said.
Based on skid marks left at the scene, it appeared the driver tried to swerve from the onramp back onto Watt Avenue, hit a curb and slammed into the freeway sign, investigators said.
The impact on the passenger's side of the car bent the sedan in half, killing the driver, officers said.
Crews used pry bars and cables to remove the car from the pole and were able to clear the roadway by about 4:30 a.m.
The man's name has not been released. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.
