Sacramento, CA : A fiery collision in Ramona on Monday, August 14, 2017
A fiery collision in Ramona killed one driver and injured a suspected DUI driver and his two children Monday, authorities said.
The impact threw a 4-year-old boy out the rear window of his father’s pickup into the bed, causing life-threatening injuries, California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Pearlstein said.
The names of the two drivers were not released.
A 21-year-old Ramona woman in a Nissan Altima sedan was heading west on Vista Ramona Road when an eastbound driver let his Ford F250 cross the double yellow lines into her lane, Pearlstein said.
The vehicles collided head-on. The sedan caught fire after the crash and its driver died, authorities said.
The man’s son was not properly restrained in a child seat in the middle of the truck’s back seat, Pearlstein said. The daughter, age 5, was in a booster seat in the front. She suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital in an ambulance.
The pickup driver, a 50-year-old Ramona resident, and his son were airlifted to hospitals. The driver suffered major injuries including a broken back, Pearlstein said.
