Two Gainesville men apparently were seriously injured early Tuesday morning north of Gainesville when the car they were riding in went out of control and struck a tree, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said that Thaddeus C. James, 27, was driving a 1996 Nissan Sentra northbound on County Road 231 near where it intersects with State Road 121 at around 5 a.m. Tuesday when James lost control of the Nissan, traveled off the road and struck a tree.
James was seriously injured in the crash and transported to UF Health Shands Hospital. A passenger in the Nissan, Franklin E. Gaskin, 54, was also seriously injured, FHP was told, but by the time troopers arrived at the accident scene at about 6:50 a.m., Gaskin had left the accident scene, apparently walking north of State Road 121.
