Onslow County, NC : Minor injuries in crash with school bus, EMS truck on Sand Ridge Road on Tuesday afternoon, May 10, 2016
Jacksonville, North Carolina
There were minor injuries as a result of a crash involving a school bus and an EMS truck Tuesday afternoon.
A Swansboro High School bus driven by Billie Burden, 58, of Hubert, came to a stop on Sand Ridge Road while waiting to make a left-hand turn onto Caper Drive around 3 p.m., said Highway Patrol Trooper C.J. Cross.
A blue Toyota Corolla, driven by Brian Weis, 30, of Hubert came to a complete stop behind the bus, Cross said, but the pickup truck behind him allegedly did not.
The truck, driven by Wesley Ellis, 21, of Swansboro was a Swansboro Volunteer EMS truck, Cross said. Ellis reportedly did not stop in time and pushed the Toyota under the school bus, he said.
Bus No. 23 had two students from Swansboro High School on board at the time of the wreck, Onslow County Schools spokeswoman Suzie Ulbrich said. Their parents were being notified, she added.
The bus was not damaged, Ulbrich said.
Weis complained of soreness at the scene, Cross said, and Ellis was transported to Onslow Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.
Cross said Ellis was charged with failure to reduce speed.
