MUNCIE, IN : Man killed in car-bike crash on Morrison Road on Wednesday, March 22nd 2017
A Muncie man died Wednesday night after his bicycle was struck by a car on North Morrison Road, just north of Candlewick Street.
Morris Eugene Weaver, 31, of the 5900 block of West Delaware County Road 350-N, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, according to Deputy Coroner Clarence Books.
According to a Muncie Police Department report, a car driven by Charles A. Pittman, 46, of the 10600 block of North Old Granville Road, Albany, was northbound on Morrison when he struck the bicyclist.
Pittman told officer he “looked away for a moment and when he looked back at the road he saw the bicyclist.” The motorist said he tried to slow down and avoid hitting Weaver, but was unable to do so.
Police said the scene of the accident was “a dark section of roadway,” and that Weaver was wearing dark clothing and “did not appear to have any reflective materials on his person or bicycle.”
The victim died of internal injuries, Brooks said. An autopsy was set Thursday at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.
A blood sample was taken from Pittman, standard procedure in an accident involving serious injury or death.
