Springfield, IL : A 68-year-old Girard man is dead and a 19-year-old Auburn woman is in critical condition after the vehicle crash on April, Friday 21st 2017
A 68-year-old Girard man is dead and a 19-year-old Auburn woman is in critical condition after the vehicles they were driving collided head-on at 2:42 p.m. Friday in northern Macoupin County.
Randy Upp of Girard was pronounced dead at HSHS St. John’s Hospital after the accident on Farmersville Road just east of Kimes Road in northern Macoupin County. Tressa Perkins of Auburn is in critical condition at Memorial Medical Center.
Illinois State Police said that Perkins’ 2003 Chrysler van was eastbound on Farmersville Road when for an unknown reason it left the road to the right. Perkins’ van overcorrected back onto the roadway, crossing into the oncoming lane and hitting head-on Upp, who was westbound in a 2007 Chevrolet Impala.
Perkins’ vehicle turned over on its side and came to rest on the north side of the road. Upp’s vehicle left the roadway to the right and came to rest in the ditch on the north side of the road.
The road was closed for approximately three hours.
Illinois State Police District 18 is investigating. Charges are pending.
