Bernalillo, NM : Multiple vehicle accident on Interstate 25 near Bernalillo on Monday, 16th July 2018

Authorities on Monday released no new details about the multiple vehicle accident early Sunday on Interstate 25 near Bernalillo that took the lives of three people and injured 24 more.

Lt. Keith Elder of the Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office said the crash, which included a bus, is still under investigation.

“There are so many moving parts going on now, but once I know the names of the victims and confirm next-of-kin notification, I’ll be sending out a release,” he said. “We’re still waiting on some information to come from our investigators as to the identities of the deceased and [bus] passengers.”

The sheriff’s office said Sunday that the crash about a mile north of the U.S. 550 exit began when a car headed south on I-25 rear-ended a pickup, sending it into the northbound median. The driver of the car was ejected and the car came to a stop in the southbound lanes. That driver died at the scene.
