Franklin County, OH : Man dies after crash on U.S. 62 in Plain Township on Thursday, Oct 15, 2015

Witnesses told deputies the man was driving in and out of traffic before the fatal crash.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, at about 9:52 p.m. Thursday, October 15, deputies responded to the report of a crash on U.S. 62 north of Walnut Street, between a Honda Odyssey mini-van and a Chevrolet Corvette.

Witnesses told deputies the Corvette was traveling northbound on U.S. 62, disregarding the double yellow pavement lines and passing cars, when it struck the rear of the minivan.

The mini-van traveled of the side of the road, struck a utility pole and rolled over. The Corvette also went off the road and came to rest in a tree line.

The driver of the mini-van, 45-year-old Tina Perkins, of Johnstown, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was transported to Grant Medical Center in stable condition.

Deputies said the driver of the Corvette, 67-year-old Kevin Lonergan, was not wearing a seatbelt during the time of the crash and was taken to Saint Ann’s Hospital in critical condition. Lonergan died from his injuries Sunday.

Deputies continue to investigate but said it has not been determined if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
